foto presidenteThe last 2nd of April, the President of the Government of Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, visited the Integrated Manufacturing Centre (CFI). During the visit, he could learn about the LIFE BAQUA project and its progress. In addition, all the assistants could take a dossier, generated by the coordinating partner of the project, in which they could find more information about BAQUA, apart from a letter of intents, to propose initiatives and European policies to promote the use of natural fibres, specifically the fibres deriving from agricultural wastes.

The President showed an interest in the project progress and is waiting for further information at the end of it, to discuss how the Government of Canary Islands could support the implementation of the extraction of fibre and its use.

life ponenciaOn 30th of November, took place a networking event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of LIFE Program at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC).

This year, the LIFE Program is celebrating its 25th anniversary. LIFE is the EU’s financial instrument supporting environmental, nature conservation and climate action projects throughout the EU. Since 1992, LIFE has co-financed more than 4500 projects which are framed in two sub-programs: Environment (Nature and Biodiversity, Environment and Resource Efficiency, Information and Governance) and Climate Action (Climate Change Mitigation, Climate Change Adaptation, Information and Governance).

elmiaSPIF arranged a seminar to discuss Plastic as a sustainable material and how to use and think about plastics in the future.
In the presentation attended also a representative from the Swedish Government to present an investigation regarding “how to reduce negative impact on the environment from plastics”.
Leif Nilsson from SPIF presented the Life-Baqua project and showed some samples from the initial technical trials. The project brochure was distributed to the participants.
There is a great interest in circular economy in Sweden and especially the problem with plastics in the environment. Bio-based materials and circular economy was of great interest among the participants.

During the first Technical Meeting in Zaragoza the 13th of March, LIFE-BAQUA had the opportunity to set up a networking event with RECYSITE Project (LIFE15 ENV/BE/000204), Multibiosol Project (LIFE 14/ENV/ES/486) and Freshbox Project (LIFE13 ENV/ES/1362). All of them are part of the European Union´s LIFE program and are related with biobased and biodegradable materials. In this sense, the feedback with the partners of the different projects was very enriching, finding common aspects and interest in the researches carried out.

SPIF participated at Plastteknik 2017 in Malmö. SPIF had a booth in the exhibition area were LIFE-BAQUA was presented. Circular economy and future plastic raw material were discussed with a lot of visitors. Samples from the first trials of LIFE-BAQUA products were shown to the visitors. The leaflet about LIFE-BAQUA was well appreciated by the visitors.

technical meetingFacilities of Tecnopackaging (Zaragoza) hosted the first technical meeting of European Project LIFE BAQUA, the 13th and 14th of March. This was the second time that the consortium met, after the Kick-off meeting that took place in the facilities of ULPGC (Gran Canaria) in September. In this meeting each partner presented the results of the actions carried out during that period of time.Also, some management issues were addressed with the participation of the monitoring expert nominated by LIFE program.
